Life skills - what is it all about?

Life Skills is a very important area in today's time. Specially when we are concerned about employability of our professionally qualified youth. As per WHO 's definition of Life skills, these skills are “the abilities for adaptive and positive behaviour that enable individuals to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life

The ten core life skills as laid down by WHO are given as below

  1. Self Awareness.
  2. Empathy.
  3. Critical Thinking.
  4. Creative Thinking.
  5. Decision Making.
  6. Problem Solving.
  7. Effective Communication.
  8. Interpersonal Relationship.
  9. Coping with stress.
  10. Coping with Emotion.

While doing search, I stumble on a website http://lifeskillseducation.in . They are providing,  Masters in Life skills Education (MLSE), a Professional Degree Course which is unique in itself. The website or the university is not paying me anything to promote them. I have mentioned the link, only because i liked the course. Also the above picture used in this article is taken from the website of lifeskillseducation.in

Life Skills is an upcoming area now a days. And even CBSE has included this as a subject in schools. But yes, not everyone can become life skills coach or life skills trainer. One needs that kind of aptitude to connect with students and helping them in able to view life from a different prospective.  You can download the details of  life skills for 9th and 10th class under CBSE at the following link:  http://www.cbse.nic.in/cce/life_skills_cce.pdf

I hope the students really learn these life skills in schools and should not treat it just like any other subject to pass. Learning life skills will not only help students in passing the school, or college but it will also help in passing the exams which we all face in our day to day life.
